Just some quick news:
Bryan Kehl was selected by the Super Bowl Champions, the NY Giants, in the 4th round. They were expecting to take him in the 3rd but a WR they were interested in slipped down the board and they couldn’t pass it up. They did trade up to get him in the 4th and he will be heading out soon. He is in a good situation in NY where they lost their top two OLB’s since winning the giant BLING. Continue Reading »

OK, Legionnaires. We’ve all had it up to here with the TV deal. I think I’m hooked on torturing myself with the stories of how BYU would have been in the Big 12 if not for the governor of Texas (Baylor alum) making UT, A&M, Tech and Baylor an all-or-nothing package deal. Or how about the clandestine deal a few years ago that would have brought Colorado and BYU into the PAC-10, but got stonewalled by the west coast politicos. We were thisclose to never having to deal with Craig Thompson or a crappy TV deal or exclusion from big-money bowls (pardon me while I light my hair on fire).
For those of you who need an outlet, I’m here for you. I want to know what YOU would do to get BYU out of this undeserved nightmare. I’m not going to nitpick the feasibility of anyone’s plan - I just want you to get it out there, get it off your chest, embrace the catharsis, share your dream. BYU deserves better, and may someday get it, so let’s hear it! Where would you try to take BYU athletics if you had the chance?

Has anyone been hearing the stuff coming out of Mountain West Conference headquarters lately? The way Mountain West Commissioner Craig Thompson talks, you’d think the Molehill…er, the mtn. network, is the greatest thing since shoulder pads. Continue Reading »

If you’re like me, you’ve been chomping at the bit for football season shortly after the end of the NCAA basketball tournament, maybe longer since BYU’s season ended on such a sweet note. Instead of languishing in agony of spirit, counting down the seconds until fall camp and the season opener against Arizona, let’s all take the opportunity to check and double-check the basics of fan preparation for the start of BYU’s 2007 football campaign: Continue Reading »

It’s nice to see the vast majority of games on Saturdays. I also like that BYU’s early season schedule is front-loaded with road games so they can enjoy the comforts of home down the stretch. The only negative on that front is that I’d like BYU to play in Laramie sometime other than November. Let’s swap UNLV with Wyoming and call it good. The Cougs get the home-opener to sharpen their teeth for UCLA. It looks early on that every game on the schedule is no worse than a 50/50 shot at a win.

What in the name of Craig Thompson is up with us getting TCU on a short week for the second year in a row, and late in the year to boot?! At least TCU gets a short week this time as well, but you know after last year that Gary Patterson is going to be game-planning in advance for that one. I’m not sure what to think of having the Air Force for the conference opener. Air Force is a complete wild-card this with a new head coach and offensive scheme. Truthfully, BYU should rout Air Force no matter what, but there’s some mystery to the game this year. Two thumbs WAY down for scheduling a I-AA school. If BYU is interested in building on last year’s success, scheduling cupcakes is no way to earn people’s continued respect. One small benefit is that it comes during conference play. Most people would think this is a negative, but it’s a good chance for the team to take a collective deep breath and heal any injuries before the gauntlet (this does not excuse Holmoe for scheduling it in the first place, though).
Stay tuned, everybody! Spring football in under way and I’m anxious to talk it up!
